Monet
Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a French painter and founder of French impressionist painting, and is the most recognized impressionist painter. The word "Impressionism" even stems from one of his paintings, Impression, Sunrise.
Impressionist art shows a unique interaction between painting and music. Impressionist music and impressionist art has a sort of connection, in the way that it is made and the way they fit together. A famous critic, Camille Mauclair, said that "Famous critic Camille Mauclair suggests that "Light is used in Impressionist painting in the manner that a theme in music is symphonically developed. The landscapes of Claude Monet are in fact symphonies of luminous waves, and the music of Monsieur Debussy, based not on a succession of themes but on the relative values of sounds in themselves, bears a remarkable resemblance to these pictures. It is Impressionism consisting of sonorous patches." (http://www.tcd.ie/Music/JF%20History/debussy.html)

Music in the Impressionism in general
Music in the Impressionism was quite different from the preceding eras as the use of harmony had developed a lot. Impressionist music used a new kind of chord development. Instead of building up and loosening tension, as was the norm at that time, chords were used to induce images into the listeners mind. Sometimes the melody in Impressionist music isn't exactly clear, as much as it is implied. In other words, as the title of the genre would suggest, we only get an impression of it.
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French Impressionist composer. He is even today loved for his amazing compositions, that have been descriped as being very light and full of emotions. He is most famous for his orchestral compositions, and his piano pieces are still favorites today among piano students around the world.
Debussy's perhaps best known work is Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
